OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – State Senator Micheal Bergstrom and his legislative colleagues convened on Tuesday morning for a joint session in the House Chamber to celebrate and recognize the Oklahoma National Guard and the 45th Infantry Thunderbird Division. Speaking at the ceremony was Gov. Stitt and Maj. General Michael C. Thompson, adjutant general.
This year’s theme is “Oklahoma Guard Heroes,” which was coined to recognize the outstanding work of Oklahoma’s National Guardsmen, both in and out of uniform. Four Oklahoma Guardsmen received recognition at Tuesday’s ceremony for their life saving efforts.
“Tuesday was a special day as we paid tribute to the sacrifices made by so many for our state and our nation. I also enjoyed the unique opportunity to visit with Major General Thompson regarding the Starbase programs, as well as ideas on how to expand it within our district. We also had a great conversation about the Thunderbird Challenge Program where I’ve previously taught,” said Bergstrom, R-Adair.
The Oklahoma National Guard serves in many ways, including providing assistance following disasters like floods, fires, and tornadoes. It also has provided service overseas and currently serves in four countries.
