Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, has appointed Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair, to the newly formed Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. The committee will ensure a more transparent and thorough process before administrative rules are approved or repealed.
“In recent years, we’ve seen an increase in state agencies going around the Legislature’s law-making authority by implementing their own administrative rules,” Bergstrom said. “During the last legislative session, we passed Senate Bill 913 to create this joint committee, which was long overdue to protect our legislative authority. It’s an honor to be appointed to this committee, and I look forward to serving in this capacity.”
Sen. Julie Daniels, R-Bartlesville, will serve as a co-chairman of the committee.
“With the creation of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, the Legislature has a powerful and effective tool to protect legislative authority and stop executive branch overreach,” Treat said. “I am confident Senator Bergstrom and the other members of JCAR will be thorough and diligent in their work to review administrative rules moving forward.”
