Having played an integral part in facilitating communication and cooperation between the Oklahoma Citizen Advocates for Recovery and Treatment Association (OCARTA) and the state legislature, Sen. Don Barrington was recently named 2009 Legislator of the Year by OCARTA.
OCARTA Executive Director Donna Woods Bauer praised Barrington for his support of the organization and efforts to make a significant contribution to the lives of Oklahomans affected by addiction.
“Senator Barrington has taken the initiative to heighten awareness of the issues relating to substance abuse and recovery,” she said. “His work as a supporter of statewide efforts on behalf of our organization has distinguished him as an invaluable asset and an exceptional lawmaker. He’s a very deserving recipient of this award.”
OCARTA’s mission is to empower recovering people and their families through physical, emotional, and spiritual growth to make significant contributions to society.
Barrington said it was an honor to be recognized for his contribution to the advancement of issues relating to substance abuse and recovery.
“OCARTA does a tremendous job in working on behalf of recovering people and families in need,” said Barrington, R-Lawton. “Their dedication should never go unnoticed. As a lawmaker, I will remain committed to doing everything in my power to help Oklahomans in need, including those struggling with substance abuse and persevering through recovery.”
