Weaver takes oath, begins first Senate term

State Senator Darrell Weaver is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 24. The Moore Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday as friends, family and other supporters watched from inside the Senate Chamber.

“I am appreciative of the citizens of District 24 for entrusting me to be their voice in the Senate,” Weaver said. “I’m looking forward to focusing on legislation that will create more jobs, expand and diversify our economy and generate more resources for public safety, education and other essential core services.”

Weaver graduated from Cameron University with a Bachelors of Accounting and later earned an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University. The Moore legislator is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police. He was commissioned as an Agent with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics in 1987 and held various assignments throughout the state, ultimately serving as the Director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control from September 2006 until his retirement in 2015. Weaver was inducted into the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame in 2014. Weaver and his wife, Kim, have five children and are active in the Moore and South Oklahoma City Chambers of Commerce.

Senate President Pro Tempore Designate Greg Treat said he was looking forward to working with Weaver. “Senator Weaver represents the core values that make Oklahoma great. His professional experience will be a valuable asset to our caucus. I know Senator Weaver will be a strong voice on behalf of the people of District 24 in the State Senate,” said Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8, and the 2019 session will formally get underway on February 4.
