Senator Roger Thompson presented with Education Distinguished Service Award

OKLAHOMA CITY— State Senator Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, was presented with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Distinguished Service Award on Thursday, February 1 in Oklahoma City.

The Republican legislator was honored for his leadership as a member of the Appropriations and Education Committees in the State Senate, as well as for his efforts to restore funding to higher education and minimize budget cuts to higher education during last year’s legislative session. His ongoing support of the Oklahoma’s Promise (formerly known as OHLAP) was also noted in his distinguished service to higher ed.

“I’d like to thank Chancellor Johnson and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for presenting me the 2017 Distinguished Service Award, as well as a special thank you to Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Ramming for making the trip to join us this week,” Thompson said. “Our colleges and universities are the backbone of a well trained workforce that empowers a growing economy, and I’m honored to be recognized by this outstanding group that is leading the future of education.”

Sen. Thompson was elected to serve in District 8 of the Oklahoma State Senate in November 2014, which includes Okmulgee and McIntosh counties, as well as portions of Okfuskee and Muskogee counties. In addition to serving on the Senate Appropriations committee, he also currently serves on the Education and Public Safety committees, as well as Rules. Additionally, he serves as the chair of two Senate Appropriations Subcommittees - Select Agencies and Finance.
