Senator Howard thanks Boeing for returning to Clinton-Sherman Airport for test flights

OKLAHOMA CITY –Work at the Clinton-Sherman Airport in Burns Flat are underway in preparation of the arrival of Boeing Airlines in the coming weeks. Senator Brent Howard, R-Altus, said he is grateful for the international airline manufacturer once again choosing the airport for continued testing of their commercial jets.

“We are so pleased to welcome Boeing back to our district, especially during this time as our local economies are struggling through the pandemic,” Howard said. “While they’ll only be here for a short time, they have already spurred great economic development in many areas, including lodging, catering services, security and rental of vehicles and work equipment. This is a much-welcomed investment in our district, and we greatly appreciate Boeing for choosing Oklahoma for their continued testing. We wish them the best on their test flights, and hope they are successful.”

Boeing calculates that they spend about $250 per worker per day. They will have 80 workers onsite for 18 days. While complete details of their work is unknown, they will be performing flight tests on two of their commercial jets, including the 737 Max, which has been grounded worldwide since March 2020, and on its newest commercial wide-body jet, the 777X.

This will be the third time Boeing has used the airport and its 2.55-mile long runway. A 737 auto-landing system was tested in 2013, and proficiency training and flight tests were conducted on a 747-800 in 2015.
