Sen. Weaver earns perfect score for bills supporting economy, job growth

The Research Institute for Economic Development (RIED) has issued its annual report, scoring legislators for their votes for legislation supporting businesses, economic development and job creation.  Of the 149 members of the Legislature, 22 members earned perfect scores, including Sen. Darrell Weaver, R-Moore.

“I know many of my constituents probably think about me in terms of the public safety legislation I’ve authored and supported,” Weaver said.  “But I also know that creating economic opportunity for our citizens, supporting our businesses and enhancing innovation in emerging industries all goes hand in hand with those efforts. It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to use my votes to help our communities and our state to prosper.”

RIED identified 19 business-related bills from the 2021 legislative session in its annual report, including tax rebates to encourage wider availability of fast, reliable internet service in rural communities, legislation supporting the aviation industry, universal licensing, and other measures aimed at helping create jobs and grow the economy.

“Over the past several years, pro-business legislation has been embraced by the majority of Senate and House members, and I am pleased to see that trend continue this session,” said Greg Love, RIED board chairman.  “In order for a small state like Oklahoma to effectively compete with Texas and other regional states, we simply must offer a better economic environment, and having a pro-business legislature is an integral part of the equation.”
