Sen. Thompson tapped to serve as vice chair of two committees, receives additional assignments for 59th Legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Kristen Thompson, R-Edmond, has received her committee assignments for the next two years. Although this is Thompson’s first term, she was asked by Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat to serve as vice chair for the Business and Commerce Committee, as well as vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

“As a business owner who has created over 200 jobs, I am very excited to be appointed as vice chair of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee as we work to strengthen and diversify our economy,” Thompson said.  “Of course excellence in education is key to having the kind of workforce that attracts new businesses. As vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, and as a member of the Education Committee, which deals with the policy side of education issues, I’ll be making important decisions on both policy and funding issues.”

In addition, Thompson will hold a seat on the full Appropriations Committee and on the Public Safety Committee.

“These assignments reflect areas of policy and funding that are important not only to District 22, but our entire state,” Thompson said.  “I appreciate Pro Tem Treat’s confidence in my abilities, and I’m excited about the opportunity to have an even greater voice in the legislative process.”
