Sen. Dugger tapped for subcommittee chairmanship, seat on streamlined Appropriations Committee, additional appointments

State Sen. Tom Dugger has been chosen to head the Appropriations Subcommittee on Select Agencies for the 57th Legislature.  The subcommittee oversees 57 state agencies, boards and commissions.  These are entities that do not receive state appropriations but are funded through fees and through the services they provide.

“Some of the biggest agencies in this subcommittee include the Grand River Dam Authority, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and the Oklahoma Lottery Commission,” said Dugger, R-Stillwater.  “Even though they don’t receive appropriated dollars, they are state entities impacting this Oklahoma in many ways.  This subcommittee gives us oversight on behalf of our citizens.”

Dugger has also selected for a seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.  In recent years, all senators were members of the committee.  This year the Appropriations has just 16 members, including the chair and vice chair.

“The idea was to streamline the committee and choose members with expertise in finance, revenue and appropriations so that the committee could work more effectively and increase its examinations of measures impacting the budget,” Dugger said.  “I’ve served on that committee the past two years and also have been a Certified Public Accountant for more than 40 years.  I understand our constitutional requirement to produce a balanced budget and will work to ensure our actions are rooted in fiscally conservative approaches.”

In addition to his chairmanship, Dugger will also serve on the Senate Education Committee and the Committee on Agriculture and Wildlife.

The Senate will convene for an organizational day on January 8, and will reconvene to continue its work in the 2019 legislative session on February 4.
