Sen. Bergstrom invites public to attend Senate redistricting meeting

State Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair, is encouraging citizens across Senate District 1 to attend the public Senate redistricting town hall meeting in Pryor on Dec. 17.

One of 18 meetings planned across the state, the Pryor town hall is an opportunity for Oklahomans to learn more about the legislative redistricting process, which takes place every 10 years following the United States Census. Redistricting utilizes data collected by the census to ensure legislative boundaries are updated as necessary to reflect population changes that have taken place over the previous decade.

“The Oklahoma Senate is committed to conducting redistricting in an open, transparent and bipartisan manner,” Bergstrom said. “We want to ensure the general public plays a role in redrawing our legislative districts while upholding the principle of ‘one person, one vote.’ I highly encourage everyone to come participate in this process and share your input on this important matter.”

Each town hall meeting will include an opportunity for public comment. In addition to meetings across the state, the Senate plans to accept online public submissions of proposed state legislative and congressional districts maps, as well as provide public notice prior to the redistricting committee taking any action.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Northeast Technology Center in Pryor, 6195 W. Highway 20. The meeting will also be livestreamed at www.oksenate.gov for those unable to attend the meeting in person. The public can also submit redistricting comments and questions via email at redistricting@oksenate.gov. A full list of all scheduled redistricting meetings to be held across the state can be found at www.oksenate.gov.
