Grant Green sworn in, begins first term in Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Grant Green, R-Wellston, was officially sworn into office Wednesday during a ceremony at the Capitol presided over by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell. Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Darby administered his Oath of Office. Green was joined by his wife, Dana, two daughters, Taylor Green and Baylea Green Bryant, two sons, Evan and Hayden Green, and daughter-in-law, Chelsea Green, on the Senate floor. The remaining Green family, friends, and supporters watched the ceremony from the Senate Gallery.

“I want to thank the wonderful people of Senate District 28 for entrusting me to be your voice in the Oklahoma Senate. It is an honor and privilege that I don’t take lightly, and I’m anxious to get to work to bring your interests and concerns to the Capitol,” Green said. “I’ll fight to protect small businesses, the agriculture industry, and our rural way of life. As a farmer, rancher, and former business owner myself, I know the struggles faced daily by these hardworking Oklahomans.”

A sixth-generation Oklahoman, Green and his wife of 24 years, Dana, share five children and two grandchildren. The couple attends Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Green graduated from Wellston High School and is a former small business owner.

The senator is the former owner of Green's Propane, a family business started by his father. Green and his brother bought the company in 2004. In 2016, Grant became the sole owner and sold the business in 2020.

“We must also defend our God-given rights and constitutional freedoms from those who would infringe upon our values,” Green said. “The unborn, our students, and our families must be protected, and I’m ready to get to work.”

A constitutionally required organizational day will be held on Jan. 3 to elect Senate leadership and formally adopt rules. Members will reconvene on Feb. 6 to officially begin the 2023 legislative session.
